Something was said on air that shouldn't have been

Compliance · updated 17 Oct 2026

If a guest or caller says something offensive, defamatory or otherwise unsuitable:

  1. Act straight away: fade or cut them, use the delay or "dump" button if your studio has one, and apologise on air where appropriate.
  2. Note the exact time, so the recording can be found in the logger.
  3. Tell your station manager the same day, and don't delete anything.
  4. The station may need to respond to complaints, and Ofcom can ask for recordings, so an accurate note now helps later.
