Ofcom requires stations to record everything they broadcast and keep the recordings. Community radio licences, for example, require a recording of every programme to be kept for 42 days, and handed to Ofcom if asked. Gaps in the logger have led to formal breach findings against stations.
- Check the logger is recording as part of daily checks: look for the newest file and its time.
- Report any logger alarm or gap immediately, even if programmes went out normally.
- Have a second recorder or backup recording where possible, and test restoring a recording now and then.
- Check your own licence for the exact requirements that apply to your station.
